Market context

A by-product the world depends on.

Most sulphur is recovered from oil and gas processing rather than mined, so supply follows refining and gas output. Most of it is burned to make sulphuric acid, which goes into phosphate fertilisers, metal leaching and chemicals.

Producing regions with large refining and gas industries ship sulphur to fertiliser and mining regions, often by sea in bulk. Demand from copper and nickel leaching has grown alongside battery-metal production.
